Why a car makes sense for Mariánské Lázně
There is a direct train from Praha hlavní nádraží on the line to Cheb. It takes about three hours, and Mariánské Lázně station sits in the lower part of town. The colonnade and most spa hotels are a steep climb above it, spread over wooded slopes. Coaches take about two and a half hours and run less often.
Most people going to Marienbad are not going for the day. They arrive for a treatment course with luggage for a fortnight and a booking at one specific hotel. For that trip, door to door in two hours beats a train, a station and a taxi up the hill. With two or three passengers, a transfer also costs about the same as separate tickets plus the taxi.

The drive
The route runs west on the D5 motorway towards Plzeň, then north on route 21. It is about 170 km, normally around two hours. If you are staying for a while, a stop in Plzeň or a detour via Karlovy Vary are both easy to arrange. Ask when you book and we will price the whole trip.
Mariánské Lázně has been on the UNESCO list since 2021, together with Karlovy Vary and Františkovy Lázně, as one of the Great Spa Towns of Europe. Karlovy Vary is 50 km away, about 40 minutes by car. That is close enough to see both towns in one day out from Prague.
Going back: Mariánské Lázně to Prague
