Vienna in a day from Prague is a long day and worth being honest about: four hours’ drive each way, fourteen hours door to door. A private day trip costs from €370 for the car — your driver, your departure time, and the car waiting for you all day.

How the day runs — and whether one day is enough
Fourteen hours, eight of them in the car, leaves you roughly five to six hours in Vienna. That is enough for one thing done properly plus a walk through the centre — Schönbrunn or the Belvedere, not both, and not the museums as well.
An early start is what makes it work. Leaving at 6 in the morning puts you in Vienna before ten. Most people who leave at nine end up feeling they only saw the outside of things.
If Vienna is a real priority, say so when you book — an overnight there and a return the next day is a different and much more relaxed trip, and we will price it for you.
Passports. This crosses into Austria. Both countries are in Schengen, so there is normally no border check, but carry your passport or ID card.
What you see in Vienna
- Schönbrunn — the Habsburg summer palace, 1,441 rooms, with gardens you could lose an afternoon in on their own
- The Hofburg — the winter palace in the middle of the city, with the imperial apartments and the Sisi Museum
- St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the lanes of the first district around it
- The Belvedere — Klimt’s The Kiss hangs here, and the palace itself is worth the walk
- The Ringstrasse, the boulevard built where the city walls stood, which the driver can take you along on the way in
- A coffee house — Viennese coffee house culture is on the UNESCO intangible heritage list, and sitting in one for an hour is not wasting your day
A day trip is not the same as a transfer
If you are travelling on to Vienna and staying there, a one-way transfer from Prague to Vienna is the cheaper option — the driver drops you and leaves.
The day trip keeps the car with you: no train times, no luggage to mind, and you decide when the day ends.
