Why go straight from the airport
Many people flying into Prague are really going to Vienna, or doing both cities in one trip. Going straight from the airport saves you a night of hotel logistics in Prague and the trip across the city to a station: the car leaves the terminal, takes the ring road to the D1 and heads south-east.
By public transport it takes longer than it looks on a map. There is no train from the airport: you first go into the city by bus to the main station, then take the train to Vienna, about four hours on the train alone. Coaches to Vienna leave mostly from Florenc in the city centre, so you cross Prague with your luggage either way.
| Option | Time | What it is really like |
|---|---|---|
| Train | 5+ hours | Bus into Prague first, then the train from the main station. Comfortable once you are on it, but the airport leg and the wait add an hour or more, with all your luggage. |
| Coach | 5–6 hours | Cheap. You cross Prague to the coach station first, then about four and a half hours on the road, arriving at a bus station rather than your hotel. |
| Private transfer | ~4 hours | From the arrivals hall to the door of your hotel, at any hour, with no changes. Priced per car. |
Where the driver meets you
Flights from outside Schengen, such as the UK, the US, Israel and the Gulf, land at Terminal 1; flights from Schengen countries at Terminal 2. Send us your flight number and the driver will be in the right arrivals hall, holding a board with your name, when you come out.
We follow the flight, so a delay moves the pick-up with it and costs you nothing. If passport control or baggage takes a long time, the driver waits.
The drive
From the airport the car takes the ring road round Prague to the D1 and follows it south-east through the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands to Brno, about two and a half hours. From Brno the D52 runs south past the Pálava hills to the border at Mikulov, and on the Austrian side the A5 takes you into Vienna. There is no stop at the border, though Austria runs occasional checks, so keep your passport handy.
A break on the way is easy to add: a coffee stop, lunch in Brno, or a short detour to the castle at Mikulov. Tell us when you book.
Arriving in Vienna
We drive to the door of your hotel or apartment in any district, including the first district, where traffic is restricted. If you are flying on from Vienna, we can take you straight to Vienna International Airport instead: Prague Airport to Vienna Airport is 350 € per car.
