The town is built around Přemysl Otakar II Square — 133 by 137 metres, one of the largest square plazas in Central Europe, with the Samson Fountain and arcades running the whole way round. From the 72-metre Black Tower you see the entire Vltava valley.
The second reason is the Budweiser Budvar brewery, the original Budweis beer. The tour with a tasting in the cellar takes about an hour and is worth booking ahead. Which is where a driver earns his place: the Czech Republic has zero tolerance for alcohol at the wheel — no permitted limit at all.
