Transfer from Berlin to Kaliningrad

Berlin to Kaliningrad is about 650 kilometres of Polish road and one real border. There is no direct train and no direct flight, which leaves the road. A private transfer costs from €500 for the whole car: pick-up at your address in Berlin, delivery to the door in Kaliningrad, no changes and no timetable.

Berlin

Berlin

What it costs

  • Business class, Mercedes E-class, 1–4 passengers — €500
  • Premium, BMW 7, 1–4 passengers — €500
  • Minivan, Mercedes Viano, up to 6 passengers — €600
  • The price is per car, not per person, one way
  • Groups of up to 46 travel by coach, quoted separately
  • No prepayment: you know the price when you book, and pay on arrival in whichever currency suits you

What is included

  • Pick-up at any address in Berlin: hotel, apartment, station or BER airport
  • Meet and greet with a name board, and 60 minutes of free waiting for your flight
  • Door-to-door delivery to your address in Kaliningrad
  • German and Polish road charges
  • Child seats and boosters — free, on request when you book
  • Rest stops on the way — obligatory on a road this long, and not charged for
  • Luggage without hard limits; for a lot of it, ask for a minivan

The drive and the border

The journey takes about 8 to 10 hours depending on traffic and the queue at the border. The route crosses Poland and ends at the Grzechotki–Mamonovo checkpoint, the same one used on the short run from Gdansk.

Germany and Poland are both in the Schengen area, so there is no passport control between them, but keep your document to hand: spot checks are legal and do happen. The one real border is the Russian one, and its timing cannot be predicted.

What you need to have with you:

  • A valid passport
  • A Schengen visa, if your nationality needs one to leave Germany and cross Poland
  • A Russian visa, or another lawful basis for entering Russia
  • A birth certificate for a child, and a notarised consent if the child travels without a parent

The Saturday service — a seat rather than a car

Alongside the private transfer this direction also has a scheduled service from €130 per seat, running to Kaliningrad on Saturdays and back on Sundays. It works out cheaper if you are travelling alone or as a pair: you pay for seats, not for the whole car. Ask us about the timetable and availability for your date when you book.

The other ways of getting there

  • Train — nothing direct; with a change in Warsaw or Vilnius it takes 12 to 15 hours
  • Coach — 12 to 16 hours, the cheapest option, but on a timetable and in the same border queue
  • Plane — there is no direct Berlin to Khrabrovo service; connecting flights come to 5–8 hours including the wait, and cost more than travelling overland
  • Private transfer — 8 to 10 hours, from €500 per car, door to door and on your schedule

For a group of four, a transfer is often comparable to four tickets, and saves considerably more time than it costs.
