The Best Pubs in Prague: What to Drink and What It Costs
Prague has hundreds of pubs, but a handful are worth crossing town for: a Gothic beer hall that has brewed its own dark lager for centuries, the old local where a president took a visiting American president for a beer, and a 70-metre-long hall where every glass comes from a tank. Here are six of the best, with what to drink, what it costs and what to know before you go. Every price below is taken from the pub’s own menu, checked in October 2026.

1. Lokál Dlouhááá: the best-poured Pilsner in the centre
Dlouhá 33, Old Town · Mon–Sat 11:00–24:00, Sun 11:00–22:00
The name is a joke on the street it stands in, Dlouhá, «Long Street», and the pub lives up to it: the hall measures 69.78 metres and takes up to 1,300 guests a day. Pilsner Urquell comes unpasteurised from 12 tanks, and the staff pour all three Czech styles properly. Prices from the menu: Pilsner Urquell 0.5 l 74 CZK, 0.3 l 57 CZK, a šnyt or a mlíko 57 CZK, unfiltered Kozel dark 0.5 l 76 CZK. The kitchen does classic Czech pub food, from fried cheese to schnitzel.
Good to know: it is loud, busy and fun, more beer hall than quiet pub. Book ahead for a group in the evening.

In a good Prague pub the head of foam holds for minutes.
2. U Zlatého tygra: the legendary local
Husova 17, Old Town · daily 15:00–23:00
«At the Golden Tiger» is the pub of the writer Bohumil Hrabal, who drank here for decades, and the place where Václav Havel brought Bill Clinton for a beer in 1994. It has barely changed since: no music, wooden benches, and Pilsner Urquell that keeps coming until you stop it. The menu is short: Pilsner Urquell 0.45 l 73 CZK, Kozel dark 0.5 l 73 CZK, with simple snacks to go with them.
Good to know: it opens at 15:00 and fills quickly, and many tables belong to regulars. Come at opening time, ask before you sit down, and expect to share a table.
3. U Fleků: the beer hall that brews its own
Křemencova 11, New Town
U Fleků has been brewing on the same site since at least 1499 and is the only place you can drink its beer on tap. There are several halls and a garden, and a cabaret at weekends. The menu valid from January 2026 lists the dark 13° lager and the pale 13° lager at 99 CZK for 0.4 l. It is one of the most expensive beers in town, and you are paying for the setting as much as the beer.
Good to know: waiters come round with trays of shots. They are not free: the menu itself says that aperitifs offered by staff are charged at 79 CZK each. Say «no, thank you» if you do not want one, and check your bill.
4. U Medvídků: Budvar and the house strong beer
Na Perštýně 7, Old Town · daily 11:30–23:00
«At the Little Bears» is a large old beer hall that serves Budweiser Budvar from the tap, rare in a city that belongs mostly to Pilsner, and brews its own beers too. Menu prices: Budvar pale or dark 0.5 l 75 CZK (0.3 l 60 CZK), the house Oldgott semi-dark 0.4 l 79 CZK and Blondgott pale 0.4 l 77 CZK. For the curious there is X-Beer 33, a very strong unfiltered dark beer sold in 0.33 l bottles at 133 CZK. Share one.
Good to know: it is open from lunchtime, which makes it a good stop between sights in the Old Town.
5. U Černého vola: the honest pub by Prague Castle
Loretánské náměstí 1, Hradčany · opens at 10:00
«At the Black Ox» stands opposite the Loreta, a few minutes from Prague Castle, in the one part of town where you would expect tourist prices, and it charges local ones. It is a plain, traditional pub pouring Kozel and Pilsner Urquell. Prices reported by drinkers on the Czech Pivní deníček beer app in September 2026: Kozel 12° about 50 CZK, Kozel dark about 44 CZK, Pilsner Urquell about 66 CZK.
Good to know: it is small and fills up fast. Perfect for a beer after walking round the Castle.
6. Strahov Monastery Brewery: craft beer above the city
Strahovské nádvoří 301, Hradčany · daily 10:00–22:00
Beer was brewed at Strahov Monastery from around 1400, and the brewery was revived in 2000 under the St. Norbert name: amber, dark and IPA beers made on site, served with a short walk to one of the best views in Prague. Prices on the brewery’s menu: 0.4 l from 89 CZK, 0.25 l from 58 CZK; the IPAs cost a little more.
Good to know: it gets busy with tour groups at midday. Late afternoon, after the Castle closes, is the best time.

How Prague pubs work
- Sit where there is room. Sharing a table is normal; ask «Je tu volno?» («Is this free?»).
- The beer keeps coming. In traditional pubs the waiter marks each beer on a slip and brings the next one when your glass is nearly empty. Put the beer mat on top of the glass when you have had enough.
- Paying. You pay at the table at the end. Tip by rounding up, about 10%, and say the total you want to pay as you hand over the money.
- Sizes. «Pivo» alone gets you the house size, usually 0.5 l; ask for «malé» for a small one.
- Cash or card. Almost every pub in the centre takes cards now, but carry some crowns for smaller places.
Getting back to your hotel. After a night in Prague’s pubs, leave the driving to us: we take you back to your hotel at a fixed price, at any hour. For a whole beer trip, the Pilsner Urquell brewery in Plzeň is less than 100 km away, from 100 € per car.
