Why there is no meter
Prague taxis run on a taximeter: a boarding charge, then kilometres, then minutes of waiting. Over two hundred kilometres that ends in a number you only see on arrival — and the D1 has roadworks narrowings where a meter quietly bills you for standing still.
So the price is named in advance:

How this differs from a street taxi
A licensed Czech taxi must carry a yellow roof lamp, the operator’s name and a price list on the door, a working meter, and must issue a printed receipt. Cars waiting in Prague’s tourist spots are not always consistent about that, and overcharging visitors is an old local story.
An intercity run sidesteps the whole thing: you get the car, the driver’s name and the sum in advance, and a receipt at the end.
The drive
The whole route runs on the D1, the main artery of the country. It is straight and dull, but fast. One quirk is worth knowing: the motorway has been modernised section by section for years, and roadworks narrowings appear and disappear each season. The driver checks the situation before setting off and takes a diversion if needed, so two and a half hours is a figure with margin.
What is in Brno
The second city of the country and the capital of Moravia, and nothing like Prague: fewer tourists, more students, cheaper restaurants.
Villa Tugendhat by Mies van der Rohe is a UNESCO monument and its tickets sell out weeks ahead. Špilberk is the fortress above the city, used by the Habsburgs as a prison. The ossuary at St James is the second largest in Europe after the Paris catacombs. At the Cathedral of St Peter and Paul noon is rung at eleven — a trick said to have saved the city from the Swedes in 1645.
Half an hour away is the Moravian Karst with the Macocha abyss. On MotoGP weekends at the Masaryk Circuit the city fills up, and the car is worth booking early.
