Taxi from Prague to Nuremberg

A taxi from Prague to Nuremberg covers 300 kilometres on the D5 and the German A6 in about three and a half hours. The price is fixed, from €240 per car, with all road charges included.

Nuremberg

Why there is no meter

Nobody runs an international journey on a taximeter: it counts kilometres and minutes, and three and a half hours across a border with toll roads turns that into a figure you would have to haggle over. We name the sum in advance:

  • €240 per car one way, up to 3 passengers
  • Per car, not per seat — one passenger or four, the figure is the same
  • The Czech vignette and German road charges are included
  • An eight-seat minivan is quoted separately

The drive

The route runs on the D5 through Plzeň to Rozvadov, crosses the border there and continues on the German A6 through Waidhaus and Amberg. There is no passport control — both countries are in the Schengen area — but bring your document: spot checks are legal and do happen.

Three and a half hours is an honest figure including one stop.

What is in Nuremberg

The second city of Bavaria, where the twentieth century sits directly beside the Middle Ages.

The Kaiserburg is the imperial castle above the city, where every Holy Roman Emperor stayed. Albrecht Dürer’s house is where the painter lived for twenty years. The Hauptmarkt has the Schöner Brunnen with its golden ring, which you are supposed to turn for luck. The Nazi Party Rally Grounds and the Documentation Centre make a heavy but important stop. Courtroom 600 in the Palace of Justice, where the Nuremberg trials were held, is open as the Memorium.

To eat: thin grilled Rostbratwurst served three to a bread roll, and Nuremberg Lebkuchen.

The Christkindlesmarkt, the best-known Christmas market in Germany, opens on the Friday before the first Sunday of Advent. Roads and hotels are stretched in those weeks, so book the car early.
