Transfer from Prague to Dresden
Dresden is the easiest foreign city to reach from Prague — 150 kilometres due north, about two hours by road, both countries in Schengen, so nobody stops you at the border. A private transfer from Prague to Dresden costs €170 for the whole car: you are picked up at your hotel at the time you choose and dropped at the door of your address in Dresden, with no station at either end and no luggage limits.

Train, coach or car
All three work, and the honest answer is that the train is lovely if you are travelling light and alone.
- EuroCity train — 2 h 15 min, roughly €20–40. The line follows the Elbe through the sandstone gorges of Saxon Switzerland and is one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Europe. Departs Praha hlavní nádraží every couple of hours.
- Coach — 2 h to 2 h 30, roughly €10–20. The cheapest option by a clear margin, but you leave from Florenc or Holešovice, luggage is limited, and you arrive at a bus stop rather than the old town.
- Private transfer — about 2 hours, €170 per car. Door to door, your own timetable, suitcases and child seats are not a problem. Priced per car, so with three or four people it lands close to the cost of four train tickets.

The drive
The road runs north on the D8 motorway, crosses into Germany near Petrovice and continues as the A17 down into the Elbe valley. Both countries are in the Schengen area, so there is no passport check — you notice the border mainly because the road signs change colour.
Two hours is the normal door-to-door time. Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings in summer can add twenty minutes or so around the Ústí nad Labem stretch, and roadworks on the German side occasionally slow things down.
Stops along the way
The route passes through some of the best scenery in Central Europe, and a private car is the only way to see it without rearranging your day around a timetable. Tell the driver in advance and we build the stop into the schedule:
- Bohemian Switzerland — Hřensko and the Pravčická brána, the largest natural sandstone arch in Europe
- Bad Schandau — the spa town on the German side of the gorge
- Königstein Fortress — a hilltop fortress above the Elbe, about 30 minutes short of Dresden
- Děčín — the château and the rose garden above the river
A short stop costs nothing extra. A longer one — an hour or more of the driver waiting — is quoted when you book.
Arriving in Dresden
Most people are heading for the Altstadt: the Frauenkirche, the Zwinger, the Semperoper and the Brühl Terrace are all within a few minutes’ walk of each other. We drop you at your hotel or at the address you give us, which matters more than it sounds — the old town is partly pedestrianised and the nearest tram stop to a hotel is not always close.
