Transfer from Prague to Berlin
Prague to Berlin is 350 kilometres almost due north, about four hours by road. The route runs down the Elbe valley and straight through Dresden — which is the single most useful thing to know before deciding how to travel.

Being honest about the train
Unlike the Munich line, the railway to Berlin is genuinely good. EuroCity trains run direct from Praha hlavni nadrazi to Berlin in about four and a quarter hours, following the Elbe through the sandstone gorges of Saxon Switzerland, and it is one of the better rail journeys in Europe.

Dresden is on the way, not a detour
This is the real argument for a car on this particular route. Dresden sits almost exactly halfway, directly on the road, and its historic centre is fifteen minutes from the motorway.
Four hours in Dresden turns a transfer into a day: the Green Vault treasury, the Zwinger with Raphael’s Sistine Madonna, the rebuilt Frauenkirche, and the 102-metre porcelain mural of the Procession of Princes — all within a short walk of each other.
The driver waits, your luggage stays in the car, and you arrive in Berlin in the evening having seen a second city on the way. Book the Green Vault online in advance; entry is by timed ticket.

The drive
We leave Prague on the D8 heading north, cross the volcanic hills of the Ceske stredohori, and reach the German border at Petrovice. The road becomes the A17 and drops into the Elbe valley at Dresden, then the A13 runs north across Brandenburg to Berlin.
There is no border control — both countries are in the Schengen area — and German motorways carry no toll for cars.
Arriving in Berlin
We take you to the door of your hotel or apartment in any district — Mitte, Kreuzberg, Charlottenburg, wherever you are staying. Berlin is large and spread out, and the difference between a station drop and a door drop is bigger here than almost anywhere else.
If you are flying on, we drive to the correct terminal at Berlin Brandenburg Airport, which is well south-east of the centre. For an early flight we leave Prague at night, with no night surcharge.
