Taxi or private transfer: the same car

Whether you call it a taxi or a private transfer, what you book is one car with a driver for your group, from your hotel in Krumlov to the terminal in Prague. The difference from a street taxi is the price: it is fixed per car before you set off, with no meter running and no surcharge for luggage or an early start.

Why the last leg is the hard one

Getting out of Český Krumlov is harder than getting in. There is no direct train to Prague, the coaches leave from the edge of town on a fixed timetable and arrive at a Prague station rather than the airport, and the old town is closed to traffic, which is awkward at five in the morning with a suitcase and a flight to catch.

Option Time What it is really like
Coach + city transport 4+ hours Coach to Prague, then across the city to the airport by metro and bus. Cheap, but a long chain of connections with luggage.
Train + bus 4.5+ hours A change in České Budějovice, the train to Prague’s main station, then the Airport Express bus. The slowest way.
Taxi / private transfer ~2.5 hours From your hotel door to the departures kerb, at whatever hour your flight needs. Priced per car.

Where we pick you up

The centre of Český Krumlov is pedestrian, and several hotels sit on lanes a car cannot enter. The driver parks at the nearest permitted point, usually a couple of minutes’ walk away, comes to the hotel door and takes the luggage. We also collect from apartments, the bus station and hotels in the surrounding villages. Tell us the hotel name when you book.

The drive

The road follows the Vltava out of the Šumava foothills to České Budějovice, then runs north through the South Bohemian fishpond country to Písek and joins the D4 motorway towards Prague. The car takes the ring road round the city to the airport on its north-western edge. One country, no border, two and a half hours.

At the airport

Flights to Schengen countries leave from Terminal 2; flights to the UK, the US, Israel, the Gulf and other non-Schengen destinations from Terminal 1. Give us your flight number and the driver will stop at the right departures kerb and help you with the luggage.

When to leave Krumlov. Allow the two and a half hours of driving plus two hours at the airport for a Schengen flight, three for a long-haul one. A ten o’clock flight within Europe means leaving Krumlov at about half past five.

What is included

A private car with an English-speaking driver for your group only. Pick-up at your hotel and help with luggage from the door. Fuel, the Czech motorway vignette and all tolls. Child seats on request at no charge: tell us the age and weight when you book.

The fare is fixed at booking: no meter, no surcharge for luggage or for an early start, no recalculation at the airport.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Český Krumlov to Prague Airport?

200 € per car, one way, whether you take a car in economy, comfort or premium class or a minibus for up to eight. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and it is fixed when we confirm the booking.

How long does the drive from Český Krumlov to Prague Airport take?

About two and a half hours for roughly 190 kilometres through České Budějovice and Písek, then round Prague on the ring road to the airport.

How early should I leave Český Krumlov for my flight?

Add two hours at the airport for a flight within Schengen and three for a long-haul one to the two and a half hours of driving. Tell us the flight time and we will suggest a pick-up time.

Is there a direct bus or train from Český Krumlov to Prague Airport?

Not a practical one. Coaches and trains go to Prague, and from there you cross the city to the airport by metro and bus, so it takes four hours or more with luggage.

Can the driver reach our hotel in the old town?

Cars cannot enter most of the old town. The driver parks at the nearest permitted point, a couple of minutes away, and comes to the hotel door to carry the luggage.

Can we stop at Hluboká Castle on the way?

Yes, it is barely a detour north of České Budějovice. Tell us when you book so we can build the stop into the pick-up time before your flight.
