Transfer from Prague to Cesky Krumlov
Cesky Krumlov is 175 kilometres south of Prague — a medieval town wrapped inside a bend of the Vltava, on the UNESCO list since 1992. There is no direct train, and that single fact decides how most people get there. We drive you from your hotel in Prague to the edge of the old town in about two and a half hours.

The price is per car, not per person. Sedan from 150 €, comfort class from 170 €, minibus for up to eight from 200 €. A stop on the way costs nothing extra if you tell us in advance.
Why there is no easy train
Cesky Krumlov has a railway station, but reaching it from Prague means changing at Ceske Budejovice onto a slow regional line, and the whole trip takes around three and a half hours. The station also sits a good walk uphill from the old town, which is unhelpful with a suitcase.

The road south
We leave Prague on the D3 motorway heading south, through the rolling farmland and fishpond country of South Bohemia — carp has been farmed here since the fifteenth century, and it is still what Czech families eat at Christmas.
Past Ceske Budejovice, home of the original Budweiser brewery, the road narrows and follows the Vltava upstream into the foothills of the Sumava mountains. The last twenty minutes are the good part: forest, river, and then the painted castle tower appearing above the rooftops.
Two stops are worth considering, and neither changes the price if you mention them when booking: Hluboka Castle, the white neo-gothic pile modelled on Windsor, and the brewery in Ceske Budejovice.
What is waiting for you there
The old town is closed to traffic and small enough to cross on foot in fifteen minutes, which is why it works so well as a day or an overnight.
The castle is the second-largest complex in the Czech Republic after Prague Castle — around forty buildings across five courtyards, on a rock spur above the river. Much of it can be walked through without a ticket.
The round tower, renaissance-painted in the 1580s, gives you the view everyone photographs: the horseshoe bend of the Vltava with red roofs inside it.
The baroque theatre is one of only a handful anywhere that still has its original stage machinery, painted sets and costumes. Small guided tours, usually May to October — book ahead if it matters to you.
The bears in the castle moat have been kept since the sixteenth century. The Rosenbergs who built the place claimed kinship with the Italian house of Orsini, whose name means bear, and nobody has stopped since.
