Why go straight from the airport

Český Krumlov is a common first stop in the Czech Republic, and many visitors land in Prague and want to be in the castle town the same afternoon. Going straight from the airport saves you a trip across Prague to a bus or train station: the car leaves the terminal, takes the ring road south and joins the D4.

By public transport it is a long day. There is no direct train to Český Krumlov: you change at České Budějovice, about three and a half hours from Prague main station, which you first have to reach from the airport. Coaches go from Na Knížecí in Prague and take around three hours, so with the airport leg you are looking at four or more, with all your luggage.

Option Time What it is really like
Train 4.5+ hours Bus into Prague, the train to České Budějovice, then a regional train to Český Krumlov, whose station is a steep walk above the town.
Coach 4+ hours Cheap and direct from Na Knížecí, but you cross Prague with your luggage first, and seats sell out in summer.
Private transfer ~2.5 hours From the arrivals hall to the old town, at any hour, with no changes. Priced per car.

Where the driver meets you

Flights from outside Schengen, such as the UK, the US, Israel and the Gulf, land at Terminal 1; flights from Schengen countries at Terminal 2. Send us your flight number and the driver will be in the right arrivals hall, holding a board with your name, when you come out.

We follow the flight, so a delay moves the pick-up with it and costs you nothing. If passport control or baggage takes a long time, the driver waits.

The drive

From the airport the car takes the ring road round Prague to the D4 motorway and follows it south to Písek, then continues through the South Bohemian fishpond country to České Budějovice and the last stretch into the Vltava valley. The castle tower appears above the river just before you arrive.

A stop on the way is easy to add: Hluboká, the white castle above the river just north of České Budějovice, is barely a detour. Tell us when you book.

Arriving in Český Krumlov

Most of the old town inside the river bend is closed to ordinary traffic. We take you as close to your hotel as the rules allow, and many hotels in the centre have their own access permit for guests arriving by car; tell us the hotel name when you book and we will check.

For the way back, see the transfer from Český Krumlov to Prague, which also covers the drive straight to Prague Airport. Starting in the centre of Prague instead? See the transfer from Prague to Český Krumlov.
