Taxi or private transfer: the same car

Whether you call it a taxi or a private transfer, what you book is one car with a driver for your group, from your door in Dresden to the terminal in Prague. The difference from a street taxi is the price: it is fixed per car before you set off, with no meter running and no surcharge for luggage or an early start.

Why fly out of Prague from Dresden

Dresden’s own airport has few international routes, so many travellers fly from Prague instead. Getting there by public transport means the EuroCity train along the Elbe to Prague’s main station, about two hours and a quarter, and then the Airport Express bus out to the airport, roughly another 35 minutes, with your suitcases at every step. A few coaches a day call at the airport directly, but only some departure times fit a flight.

Option Time What it is really like
Train + bus 3+ hours EuroCity to Prague main station, then the Airport Express bus. Comfortable on the train, but two changes with luggage and a timetable to fit.
Coach 2–2.5 hours Cheap, and a few run to the airport itself. Fixed departures and limited luggage; an early flight rarely fits.
Taxi / private transfer ~2 hours From your hotel door to the departures kerb, at whatever hour your flight needs. Priced per car.

Where we pick you up

At your hotel in the old town by the Frauenkirche and the Zwinger, in the Neustadt across the river, at a private address or a cruise pier on the Elbe. The driver comes to the door and takes the luggage. Tell us the address when you book.

The drive

We leave Dresden southbound on the A17, alongside the sandstone hills of Saxon Switzerland, and cross the border near Breitenau. There is no regular border control, but carry your passport or ID card: you will need it for your flight anyway. The Czech D8 then runs down through the volcanic hills of the České středohoří, and the airport lies on the north-western edge of Prague, on this side of the city, so the car never has to cross the centre.

At the airport

Flights to Schengen countries leave from Terminal 2; flights to the UK, the US, Israel, the Gulf and other non-Schengen destinations from Terminal 1. Give us your flight number and the driver will stop at the right departures kerb and help you with the luggage.

When to leave Dresden. Allow the two hours of driving plus two hours at the airport for a Schengen flight, three for a long-haul one. A ten o’clock flight within Europe therefore means a pick-up at about six.

What is included

A private car with an English-speaking driver for your group only. Pick-up at your door and help with luggage. Fuel, the Czech motorway vignette and all tolls; Germany charges no motorway toll for cars. Child seats on request at no charge: tell us the age and weight when you book.

The fare is fixed at booking: no meter, no surcharge for luggage or for an early start, no recalculation at the airport.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Dresden to Prague Airport?

From 170 € per car, one way, in economy, comfort or premium class, and 250 € for a minibus for up to eight. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and it is fixed when we confirm the booking.

How long does the drive from Dresden to Prague Airport take?

About two hours for roughly 150 kilometres on the A17 and the D8. The airport is on the Dresden side of Prague, so the car does not have to cross the city.

How early should I leave Dresden for my flight?

Add two hours at the airport for a flight within Schengen and three for a long-haul one to the two hours of driving. Tell us the flight time and we will suggest a pick-up time.

Is there a direct train from Dresden to Prague Airport?

No. The train runs to Prague’s main station, and from there you take the Airport Express bus, so it is three hours or more in all with two changes.

Is there a border check on the way?

Both countries are in Schengen, so there is no regular border control, though spot checks happen near the border. Keep your passport or ID card with you.

Can you pick us up very early in the morning?

Yes. We drive at any hour, including for the first flights of the day. Give us your flight number and the address in Dresden and the driver will be at the door on time.
