Transfer from Prague to Ústí nad Labem

Ústí nad Labem is 90 kilometres from Prague on the D8 motorway — about an hour. A private transfer costs from €75 for the whole car: pick-up at your hotel at the time you choose, delivery to the door, and a price for the car rather than for a seat in it.

What it costs

  • €75 per car, one way, Prague to Ústí nad Labem
  • The price is per car, not per person — one passenger or four, the figure is the same
  • Fixed when we confirm the booking and unaffected by traffic or the time of day
  • An eight-seat minivan, or a trip with the driver waiting, is quoted separately

What is included

  • Pick-up at your hotel, apartment or Prague Airport at the time you choose
  • Door-to-door delivery to your address in Ústí
  • An English-speaking driver
  • All road charges
  • Child seats and boosters — free
  • Luggage — two large suitcases plus hand luggage; more than that, ask for a minivan

The drive

The route runs north-west on the D8 past Terezín and drops into the Elbe valley. An hour is a real door-to-door figure, and the road is motorway almost the whole way.

Ústí sits exactly halfway between Prague and Dresden, which makes it a convenient place to break the journey: the German border is 25 kilometres away and Dresden 70. If you want the route with a stop, tell us when you book.

Why people go to Ústí nad Labem

Ústí is an industrial city at the confluence of the Elbe and the Bílina. It was badly bombed in the war and looks like a working town rather than a postcard. People come for what is around it rather than for the architecture.

  • Střekov — a castle on a crag above the Elbe. Wagner stayed here, and the view is said to have shaped the sets for Tannhäuser
  • The leaning church of the Assumption — the tower is more than two metres off vertical, the second largest deviation in Europe after Pisa
  • Větruše — a lookout chateau on the hill, reached by a funicular from the shopping centre
  • The Central Bohemian Uplands — volcanic hills all around the city, with Milešovka at 837 metres
  • The Vaňov waterfall and Lake Milada, a former coal pit flooded and turned into a recreation area

It is 40 kilometres from here to Hřensko and the Pravčická brána — that is already Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland.

Train, coach or car

  • Train — about an hour, 100–150 CZK, frequent. For one person travelling light it is the best option, and the line follows the Elbe, which is a pleasure in itself
  • Coach — about 1 hour 15 minutes, cheaper than the train
  • Private transfer — about an hour, €75 per car. It makes sense when there are several of you, when you have suitcases, or when your destination is not in the centre: the factories and logistics parks around Ústí are poorly served by public transport
