How to Get from Prague to Frankfurt
Frankfurt is 530 kilometres west of Prague — about five hours by road, and the longest of the regular runs out of the city. It is also the one route where we will tell you to consider flying, because on this distance the aeroplane finally earns its overheads.

Which one should you take
Travelling alone with hand luggage? Fly. This is the one route out of Prague where we say that plainly — 530 kilometres is where the aeroplane stops losing to the road.
Three or four people? Do the arithmetic before you book. Four flights plus two airport transfers is usually more than 350 €, and it costs you the two hours of standing about that flying always costs.
Heading somewhere that is not central Frankfurt? The car wins outright. Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt, the Rheingau — all within forty minutes of Frankfurt and all awkward from the airport with luggage.
Catching a long-haul flight from Frankfurt? Common, and worth planning properly: FRA has the connections Prague does not. A car that leaves Prague at five in the morning has you at the terminal by ten, with no risk of a missed connection between two separate tickets.

The drive
West on the D5 past Plzeň, across the border at Rozvadov, then the German A6 towards Nuremberg and the A3 north-west through Würzburg. German motorways are free for cars and much of the A3 has no speed limit, which is why five hours for 530 kilometres is realistic rather than optimistic.
Natural stops, if you want the day to be more than a transfer: Plzeň forty minutes out, Nuremberg at the halfway mark, and Würzburg with its UNESCO Residenz an hour short of Frankfurt. A short stop costs nothing extra.
Practical notes
No border control — both countries are in the Schengen area. Carry your passport or ID card anyway; spot checks happen.
Frankfurt Airport is not in Frankfurt. It is twelve kilometres south-west of the centre, with its own long-distance railway station. If your destination is the airport, say so when booking — it changes nothing in the price but everything in the drop-off.
The currency changes. Prague uses Czech crowns, Germany the euro. Cards work almost everywhere on both sides.
Book the flight early or not at all. Prague–Frankfurt is a business route; fares bought a week out are frequently higher than the transfer for four people.
Going the other way: Frankfurt to Prague
At 530 kilometres this is the longest run on the list in either direction, and the honest advice from the outbound section holds coming back: for one or two people a flight is usually the better answer, and saying so is more useful than pretending otherwise.
The road wins when the flight does not — a group of three or four, a lot of luggage, an arrival time that leaves you stranded, or a schedule that would cost you a night in a hotel near the airport.
