Taxi or private transfer: the same car

Whether you call it a taxi or a private transfer, what you book is one car with a driver for your group, from your door in Munich to the terminal in Prague. The difference from a street taxi is the price: it is fixed per car before you set off, with no meter running over 370 kilometres and no surcharge for luggage or an early start.

Why the road is faster than the rail

Munich and Prague are not far apart, but the railway between them was never modernised: the direct train runs on a single-track line through the Bohemian Forest and takes around six hours to Prague’s main station. To reach the airport you then add the Airport Express bus. By road the whole trip is about four hours, door to departures.

Option Time What it is really like
Train + bus 7 hours Direct but slow train to Prague main station, then the Airport Express bus. A very long day before a flight.
Coach 5+ hours Cheapest. Arrives in the city, not at the airport, with fixed departures and limited luggage.
Taxi / private transfer ~4 hours From your door to the departures kerb, at whatever hour your flight needs. Priced per car.

Where we pick you up

At your hotel or private address anywhere in Munich, whether in the Altstadt, Schwabing, Maxvorstadt or by the trade fair grounds at Riem. The driver comes to the door and takes the luggage. If you are flying into Munich Airport and on from Prague, ask us about a pick-up at MUC.

The drive

From Munich the car heads north to Regensburg and then east on the A6 to the border at Waidhaus and Rozvadov, where the motorway continues as the Czech D5 past Plzeň towards Prague. Václav Havel Airport sits on the western edge of the city, right where the D5 comes in, so the car never crosses the centre. There is no regular border control, but carry your passport: you need it for the flight anyway.

At the airport

Flights to Schengen countries leave from Terminal 2; flights to the UK, the US, Israel, the Gulf and other non-Schengen destinations from Terminal 1. Give us your flight number and the driver will stop at the right departures kerb and help you with the luggage.

When to leave Munich. Allow four hours of driving, a short stop, and two hours at the airport for a Schengen flight or three for a long-haul one. A midday flight within Europe means leaving Munich at about six in the morning.

What is included

A private car with an English-speaking driver for your group only. Pick-up at your door and help with luggage. Fuel, the Czech motorway vignette and all tolls; Germany charges no motorway toll for cars. Child seats on request at no charge: tell us the age and weight when you book.

The fare is fixed at booking: no meter, no surcharge for luggage or for an early start, no recalculation at the airport.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Munich to Prague Airport?

350 € per car, one way. The price is for the whole car, not per person, and it is fixed when we confirm the booking. For a larger group, ask us about a minibus.

How long does the drive from Munich to Prague Airport take?

About four hours for roughly 370 kilometres via Regensburg, the A6 and the Czech D5, plus a short stop on the way.

How early should I leave Munich for my flight?

Add two hours at the airport for a flight within Schengen and three for a long-haul one to about four and a half hours on the road. Tell us the flight time and we will suggest a pick-up time.

Is there a direct train from Munich to Prague Airport?

No. The direct train goes to Prague’s main station in about six hours, and from there the Airport Express bus takes you to the terminals.

Is there a border check between Germany and the Czech Republic?

Both countries are in Schengen, so there is no regular border control, though spot checks happen near the border. Keep your passport or ID card with you.

Can we stop in Plzeň on the way?

Yes. Plzeň is under an hour short of the airport, and a coffee or lunch stop there is easy to add. Tell us when you book so the stop fits the time before your flight.
