Why go straight from the airport
Václav Havel Airport sits on the western edge of Prague, right where the D5 motorway to Plzeň and Germany begins. A car from the airport never has to cross the city: it leaves the terminal and heads west, which is why many people flying into Prague for a trip that ends in Bavaria go straight on to Munich.
By public transport the same trip is a day’s work. There is no train from the airport: you first go into the city to the main station, then take the train to Munich, which takes five and a half to six hours. Coaches are cheaper but leave mostly from the city centre, so you cross Prague with your luggage either way. Flying Prague to Munich takes an hour in the air, but with check-in and two airports it is rarely faster door to door.
| Option | Time | What it is really like |
|---|---|---|
| Train | 6.5+ hours | Into Prague first, then five and a half to six hours on the train. Comfortable, but long, and the airport leg comes on top. |
| Coach | 5.5–7 hours | Cheap. You cross Prague to the coach station first, then around five hours on the road, arriving at a bus station rather than your hotel. |
| Flight | 4+ hours door to door | An hour in the air, but check-in, security and two airports eat the rest of the morning. Only worth it with a connecting flight. |
| Private transfer | ~4 hours | From the arrivals hall to the door of your hotel, at any hour, with no changes. Priced per car. |
Where the driver meets you
Flights from outside Schengen, such as the UK, the US, Israel and the Gulf, land at Terminal 1; flights from Schengen countries at Terminal 2. Send us your flight number and the driver will be in the right arrivals hall, holding a board with your name, when you come out.
We follow the flight, so a delay moves the pick-up with it and costs you nothing. If passport control or baggage takes a long time, the driver waits.
The drive
From the airport the car takes the D5 west past Plzeň to the border at Rozvadov, where the motorway continues as the German A6. From there the road turns south towards Regensburg and on into Munich. There is no regular border control, though Germany runs spot checks near the border, so keep your passport handy.
A break on the way is easy to add: a coffee stop, lunch in Plzeň, or an hour in the old town of Regensburg. Tell us when you book.
Arriving in Munich
We drive to the door of your hotel or apartment in any district. If you are flying on from Munich, we can take you straight to Munich Airport instead: Prague Airport to Munich Airport starts at 350 € per car.
