Transfer from Munich to Prague
Munich to Prague is 380 kilometres and a little over four hours by road. Plenty of people fly into Munich and travel on to Prague, because Munich Airport has the long-haul connections that Prague does not — and the moment you land, the ground leg becomes the awkward part of the trip. The train takes about six hours. A private transfer takes you from the terminal, or from your Munich hotel, straight to your door in Prague.

Route from Munich to Prague

Coming from Munich Airport
MUC sits thirty kilometres north-east of Munich, which is the first thing that makes the onward journey tricky: you are already outside the city, and every public route to Prague starts by going back into it. The train means an S-Bahn to the Hauptbahnhof, then a six-hour journey with a change of traction at the border. The coach leaves from a station on the edge of town.
We meet you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, at whichever terminal your flight comes into, and drive straight east. The flight is tracked, so a delay moves the pick-up rather than costing you the car. Waiting after landing is included.
Train, coach or car
Munich and Prague are not far apart, but the railway between them was never modernised — the direct service runs on a single-track line through the Bohemian Forest and takes around six hours, longer than Vienna to Prague over a shorter distance.

The drive
We leave Munich north on the A9, turn east onto the A6 before Nuremberg and cross into the Czech Republic at Waidhaus–Rozvadov, then follow the D5 past Plzen into Prague. German motorways carry no toll for cars and much of the A9 has no speed limit; the Czech vignette is already on the car. That combination is why the road beats the railway so comfortably here.
If you are travelling between mid-September and the first weekend of October, Oktoberfest fills Munich’s hotels and roads. Leaving the city can be slow, so we build in extra time rather than promise you a schedule that traffic will break.
Stops worth making
Regensburg — a UNESCO old town on the Danube with a medieval stone bridge, almost exactly halfway and barely off the motorway.
Nuremberg — the castle and the old town, and in December one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany.
Plzen — forty minutes short of Prague and the home of Pilsner Urquell. The brewery tour runs about two hours, and you are not the one driving.
None of them costs extra. They make the day longer, that is all — tell us when you book and we plan the timing around them.
Arriving in Prague
We take you to the door of your hotel or apartment, in any district. That matters in Prague more than in most cities: much of the historic centre is pedestrianised or permit-only, and the nearest tram stop to a hotel is not always close. If you are connecting onwards, we drop you at the right terminal at Václav Havel Airport.
For an early flight out of Prague we leave Munich at night, and there is no night surcharge.
