Transfer from Prague to Poděbrady
Poděbrady is 50 kilometres from Prague on the D11 — forty minutes. A private transfer costs from €59 for the whole car, the figure our booking form carries. The driver collects you at your hotel and delivers you to the door of the spa house, not to the station.

The drive
Forty minutes east on the D11 makes this the closest spa town to Prague. The road is expressway the whole way, and the only delays are getting out of the city at rush hour, which the driver allows for.
Being this close changes the logic of the trip: a day in Poděbrady is entirely realistic. Plenty of people book the car with waiting — treatments, lunch, a walk along the colonnade, and back to Prague in the evening.
Why people go to Poděbrady
Poděbrady is a cardiac spa on the Elbe. The mineral spring was found in 1905, when Prince Bedřich Schwarzenberg, an enthusiastic dowser, pointed at a spot in the castle courtyard and the drilling proved him right. The town has lived on water and hearts ever since.
- The spa colonnade and park — the main promenade, where people drink the water from the springs
- Poděbrady castle — birthplace in 1420 of George of Poděbrady, the only Czech king not of royal blood. His equestrian statue stands on the square
- The spa houses — heart and circulation treatment, and rehabilitation after heart attacks and surgery
- Poděbradka — the mineral water bottled here and sold across the country
- The golf club and the boat station on the Elbe, with a pleasure boat in summer
- Bohemian glass — there is a glassworks in town with its own shops
Train, coach or car
- Train — about 50 minutes from Praha hlavní nádraží, 80–120 CZK. The station in Poděbrady is close to the spa quarter, which makes this one of the rare routes where the train is genuinely convenient
- Coach — about an hour, cheaper
- Private transfer — forty minutes, €59 per car. The deciding argument is usually the luggage: a course of treatment means suitcases you would otherwise haul across a station yourself. Child seats too, if you are travelling with grandchildren
